CHRIS MANNING LAUNCHES CAMPAIGN FOR CONGRESSIONAL DISTRICT 1 SEAT VACATED BY DEB HAALAND

March 28, 2021 (ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.) – Combat veteran Chris Manning was selected in a special convention yesterday as the Libertarian candidate for the Congressional District 1 House of Representatives seat vacated by Deb Haaland.

A native New Mexican, Manning is an Eagle Scout who grew up in Kirtland before earning a Bachelor’s degree in Early Education with an emphasis in History from Arizona State University. During his six-year service in the Arizona National Guard, Manning served a combat deployment to Afghanistan in 2007-2008. A staff auditor, Manning now resides in Farmington, where he works in the family accounting business.

“I’m honored to be selected by the Libertarian Party of New Mexico to campaign for this House of Representatives seat,” said Manning, whose previous campaign experience includes a run for the CD-3 house seat.

Manning said the top issues he plans to act on if elected include health insurance reform, ending the war in Afghanistan, specifically, and all unnecessary wars, in general, and reforming the immigration policies that affect so many New Mexicans.

“I think the pandemic exposed the weakness of our healthcare system, and many people lost their health insurance due to the pandemic or government action, and I want to make sure that doesn’t happen in the future,” Manning said.

Manning is in the process of assembling his campaign team. His campaign will be conducted digitally at first, with in-person events to follow in a few weeks.

“We feel Chris Manning represents the best of the Libertarian Party,” said party chair Chris Luchini. “He’s young and energetic, committed to the social reforms Libertarians value and the fiscal responsibility we also promote. The membership could not have chosen a better candidate to run in this special election.”
